The Universal Cavalier's 2nd Annual Photo Contest

The Universal Cavalier is pleased to announce our 2nd annual photo contest.   The contest will be judged by a panel of 3 international judges:  David McCullough an Australian Cavalier breeder and one of the magazine's contributing editors;  Steve Mynott, a UK Cavalier breeder and photographer; and Michelle McDonald, a breeder of Pomeranians and a dog artist. 

There will be 4 different categories and 3 placements from each category will be awarded, with the Best of the Best being chosen from the top winner in each category.  The Best of the Best will be featured on the Cover of the September/October issue.  The top 3 winners in each category will have their photos published with a critique in that issue by the judges.   Photos will be judged on originality, content, composition, overall impact and presentation of subject.

Categories:

  • Portraits  - "a studio-like moment" of Cavaliers standing, sitting or in repose capturing the essence of the dog. 
  •  Action - Cavaliers performing activities but must be in action.
  •  Cavaliers as Companions - shot must include Cavaliers interacting with people, children, other breeds of dogs or animals showcasing the Cavalier as a companion.
  •  Puppies - Just being puppies!

 

 

Submitted photos will appear on The Universal Cavalier's website in rotation.

 Guidelines

All Photos must be submitted by July 1st, 2010 for consideration. 

Photos should be sent as jpg images to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it    The jpg files must be named to include the name of the submitter and category entered in (eg.  smithjane_action1.jpg or jamesbrown_companion2.jpg)  Please note:  photos not properly labelled will be returned to sender to be corrected.

Photos must be assigned to a category by the contestant and can only be entered into one category.   A maximum of 3 photos per submitter will be accepted in any one category.   Editor may reject photos not entered in appropriate categories.  Note: only one prize per person in a category will be awarded.
 

When submitting photos please include your name, location and email address in the email. 

Minor digital enhancements to crop, filter, and correct are permitted, but images that have been judged to be significantly altered will be disqualified. 

 
You do not have to be a subscriber to The Universal Cavalier to enter the contest.  Contest is open only to amateur photographers.  ie someone whose main source of income is not photography.  Photos must be submitted by the photographer. (No third party submissions) Submitted photos should be original and previously unpublished in a commercial endeavour such as a magazine, calendar, etc.  By submitting photos to this contest entrants agree to allow The Universal Cavalier to post the photo/s to the magazine's website and allow their photos, names and general location to be published in the magazine and/or website.   Entrants retain ownership and all other rights to future use of their photographs.

Winning photos will be published in The Universal Cavalier with critiques.  The photo winning best of all categories will be used on the cover of the September/October issue.
